2015 Drawbridge Cross – Device Connections Challenge


Vadis is proud to announce its high ranking at the ICDM 2015 - Drawbridge Cross-Device Connections challenge.
Imagine you're planning a summer holiday to Iceland: you read a travel blog on your smartphone in the subway on your way to work, you search for hotels on your laptop during lunch, you browse Reykjavik restaurants on a tablet while half-watching TV after dinner, and then you download a travel book to your e-reader to skim before bed.
As consumers move across devices to complete online tasks, their identity becomes fragmented. Marketers, hoping to target them with meaningful messages, recommendations, and customized experiences, aren't always able to discern when activity on different devices is tied to one user vs. many users.
 


Given usage data and a set of fabricated non-personally-identifiable IDs, this competition consists in identifying individual users as they switch between devices.
Vadis finished at 24th position out of 340 teams coming from all over the globe. It is indeed not the first time Vadis ends in the top ranks of data mining competitions (KDD 2014 Cup – 19th/472, KDD 2013 Cup – 33th /554, KDD 2010 Cup - 11th, KDD 2009 - 16th, ECML PKDD 2008 - 2nd, KDD 2007 - 6th …)
